They only fight when the volcano erupts and it doesn't necessarily erupt only once a day. We saw while he was there with luffy that it errupted twice in a short amount of time. The giant even said, 'the volcano is rather active today'. So lets say they fought at least twice a day for a 100 years (some days less, some days more), it works out
